Short answer: a dieline is the flat map of the box. Put your artwork under the dieline, extend backgrounds 3 mm past the cut line, keep text and logos away from folds and edges, and delete the dieline from the print layer before export.
Know the lines
| Line | Usually | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Cut line | Solid | Where the box is cut |
| Fold line | Dashed | Where it folds. Keep text off it |
| Bleed | Outside the cut | Extend colour here |
| Safe area | Inside the cut | Keep text and logos here |
We give you the dieline for your box size. Measure the product first: how to pick a mailer box.
Step by step
- Open the dieline on its own layer and lock it.
- Place artwork on a layer below. Fill every panel to the bleed edge.
- Check each panel. Make sure text reads the right way up once the box is folded.
- Keep logos and text away from folds and from the glue flap.
- Add a thank-you or care note on the inside lid if you like.
- Hide or delete the dieline layer (or set it to a separate non-printing spot colour if we ask) and export a PDF in CMYK.
Material notes
Thin E-flute board gives a smooth surface that prints well. Kraft board gives a natural look, and a single-colour logo on kraft is a low-cost, clean option.

Ask us. Options depend on the box style.
